Support “What’s in a Name?”

“What’s in a Name?” is a small contribution to the very necessary conversations we need to be having and to the efforts we need to make to decolonize the way we think. “What’s in a Name?” seeks to do this in the world of paleontology, but this is a conversation much larger than paleontology. The themes discussed in “What’s in a Name?” are themes we can (and should) apply across all geoscience, let alone science writ large. Moreover, they’re themes that I’m seeking to apply to my filmmaking process as well. Therefore, in the spirit of reciprocity (a lesson I learned from Indian Country), 50% of all “What’s in a Name?” proceeds are being donated to Fort Washakie School on the Wind River Reservation to support Indigenous students.

 FAQs

  • As of this writing (early 2025), “What’s in a Name?” is being submitted to film festivals and remains unavailable to the public. To see it prior to it going public, you can either catch it at a film festival or get in touch to schedule a private screening for your group or organization.

  • For its length and scope “What’s in a Name?” was shot on a very tight budget. It cost ~ $15,000 to short “What’s in a Name?”. The vast majority of that went to travel and production costs. With the exception of music composition, all post-production was done without compensation. As such, the other 50% of proceeds will go to offsetting the cost of post-production.
