My name is Ethan C. Parrish…

I’m a Ph.D.-trained geoscientist and documentary filmmaker seeking to explore the intersections of Earth science and humanity.

I find that looking at life from different perspectives helps me appreciate moments that I might otherwise overlook. One of the beautiful things about visual media is that it often asks me to see life through a different lens (both metaphorically and literally), thereby pulling me deeper into the beautiful mysteries of my journey here on Earth. My journey with a camera began early, motivated largely by an obsession with capturing the depth and nuance of an instantaneous moment in time through photography. I spent my free time in high school holed up in the darkroom, watching such moments develop in chemical baths. Through photography, and now film, I've gained a deeper appreciation for this planet and the infinite source of awe it provides.

My second great love is studying the natural world through the lens of geology. To me, there are few things as humbling as contemplating the magnitude of geological time and the processes that have shaped our planet for the last 4.54 billion years; moreover, how that history and those processes shape our overwhelmingly tiny, yet wondrous lives in the present.
